About

Published by Stewart Ferris

The Listening Room is a free studio where a writer can hear a manuscript spoken, and leave with audio files. It is published by Stewart Ferris.

Stewart Ferris has published hundreds of books and written more than fifty of his own, including the practical handbooks in the shop. The Listening Room sits beside those books, and beside the other studios for writers: a single job, done plainly.

The narrators are synthetic voices. You choose among women and men, British and American (and a few further accents), friendly or formal, then listen in the browser. Downloads are either one recording or a folder of chapter files, with separate files for the intro pages and the credits. Say that the narration is synthetic when you upload it. Audible’s ACX programme does not, at present, accept a book spoken only by an AI voice. Other shops do, and the files follow the usual retail shape so you can take them there.

The manuscript is not kept on this site. A passage is sent to be spoken only when you press the button, and the audio stays in your browser.
