Where to sell

Payhip

A direct download shop, with no synthetic-voice ban

Payhip sells digital files from a page you control. Nothing in its shop rules turns a synthetic audiobook away. You have to bring the reader.

Market

Payhip is a checkout for digital goods. It has no audiobook chart and no subscription listeners waiting for a new title.

There is no industry figure for its share of audiobook sales. Count it as your own shopfront.

Files they prefer

Attach the complete MP3 or the chapter zip. Payhip delivers the file after payment.

Use the Listening Room package as it is: 44.1 kHz, 192 kbps MP3, credits included.

The sales page should say the book is narrated by a synthetic voice. Name the voice so a buyer knows what they will hear.

Money

Payhip publishes a free plan and paid plans. The free plan has been described, including by Payhip’s own pricing comparisons, as a percentage of each sale (commonly 5%), with Stripe or PayPal processing on top. Paid plans lower that percentage.

Read payhip.com/pricing on the day you open the account. Do not budget from an old screenshot.

You choose the price. EU VAT and US sales tax may be added by Payhip depending on the plan and the buyer’s country. Check the tax section of the dashboard.

What else to know

A Payhip page can live on your own domain, which helps if you already have a site for the book.

Keep a sample chapter on the page. The studio can speak a single section so you are not giving the whole book away.

Same rule as any other direct shop: this listing does not feed Audible, Apple, or the libraries.
