Your own website
If you can take a payment, you can sell the file
A page on your own site, with Stripe, PayPal, or a delivery service such as BookFunnel, is a shop you control. No audiobook retailer sits in the middle to reject the voice.

Market
There is no market share to quote. The buyer found you: from the book, from a newsletter, from a talk.
In the Audio Publishers Association’s 2026 consumer survey, 49% of people who had listened to an audiobook in the past year said they had bought one directly from a website or app. That includes big stores. It is still a reminder that listeners will buy a file if you offer one.

Files they prefer
Offer the one complete MP3 for listeners who want a single file, and the chapter zip for anyone who wants tracks. The Listening Room makes both.
BookFunnel is built to deliver ebook and audiobook files to buyers and reviewers. It is not itself a shop. You still need a way to take the money.
Host a short sample. Do not upload the master only to a public folder with a guessable link.
Money
A card payment through Stripe is commonly about 2.9% plus a small fixed fee in the US and UK, varying by country. PayPal publishes its own rate. There is no extra “audiobook” commission.
You are the retailer, so you handle refunds, VAT or sales tax, and the receipt. A tool such as Payhip or Gumroad does some of that for a larger cut. Doing it yourself keeps the cut small and the paperwork yours.
Price it as a download. Look at what a similar-length indie audiobook costs on Kobo before you pick a number, then remember you are not splitting 55% with a store.
What else to know
Say, in the first lines of the sales page, that the narrator is synthetic. Trust is the whole offer.
If you later get the same book onto Kobo or Google Play, keep the direct edition. Those shops do not demand exclusivity.
The Listening Room is published by Stewart Ferris. A book of your own should point at your site, not at his, unless you are Stewart.
